DashSuey

A weather widget that follows you to every computer

The Weather widget shows the temperature, the sky and how it feels outside for the place you set, with humidity and wind, in °F or °C. It sits on your DashSuey board in a browser tab, so the same weather is there on every computer you sign in on.

Needs
A place. No key and no weather account.

On your board, beside the sky and the day

The weather next to the forecast, sunrise and sunset, and a clock, the way the At a glance starter board lays them out. The board is saved to your account, so it looks the same on every computer you sign in on.

What it shows

Now
The temperature, the sky in words and as an icon (a moon after dark on a clear night), and how it feels.
Beside it
Humidity and wind, when the tile has room.
Units
Imperial (°F, wind in mph) or Metric (°C, wind in km/h). A new widget starts in the units your region uses.
Place
A town you type, or your board's place until you do. Add a second Weather widget for a second place.
Freshness
A new reading every half hour while your board is showing, and as soon as you come back to the tab. A stored reading says how old it is.
Where it lives
On your board, saved to your account, and the same on every computer you sign in on.

Where the weather comes from

From MET Norway's forecast, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute's service, fetched by DashSuey and credited on the widget. What it shows as now is MET's forecast for the current hour.

There's no key to paste and no weather account to make: the widget is part of your board.

What it does not do

  • It shows one place per widget. Add another for another place.
  • It shows the weather now. The Forecast widget shows the days ahead.
  • It has no radar, alerts or hourly chart.

Questions people ask

How do I add a weather widget to my desktop?

Add the Weather widget to your DashSuey board, type a place in its settings, and keep the board open in a browser tab. There's nothing to install and no extension, so it works the same on Windows and on a Mac.

How do I change the location on my weather widget?

Open the widget's settings and type a place under Location, for example "Chicago, IL". Until you do, it uses your board's location.

Why is my weather widget showing the wrong city?

If you haven't typed a place, it uses your board's location, and until one is saved that is a rough guess from your internet connection, which can be off on a VPN or a work network. Type your town under Location and it stays.

Can it show Celsius?

Yes. Units is Imperial (°F) or Metric (°C), and Metric shows wind in km/h. A new widget starts in the units your browser's region uses.

What does "feels like" mean?

How warm or cold it feels once humidity and wind are counted. The widget shows MET Norway's figure; when MET sends none, it works it out MET's way, with the heat index in hot, humid air and wind chill in cold wind.

Where does the weather come from?

From MET Norway's forecast, fetched by DashSuey and credited "Based on data from MET Norway (CC BY 4.0)". What the widget shows as now is MET's forecast for the current hour.

Do I need an API key?

No. There's no key and nothing to sign up for with a weather service; the widget is part of your DashSuey board.

How often does it update?

Every half hour while your board is showing, and straight away when you come back to the tab. If a new reading cannot be had, the last one stays and says how old it is.

Will it look the same on my other computers?

Yes. The place and the units are saved to your DashSuey account with the rest of your board, so they are there on every computer you sign in on.

Can it show the forecast, or several cities?

Not in one tile. Add the Forecast widget for the days ahead, and a second Weather widget for a second place.

Put it on your own board. It saves to your account.
