DashSuey

A simple table on your start page, on every computer

Name a few columns and type the rows straight onto the tile. Simple Table keeps them on your DashSuey board, next to your other widgets, and it's there on every computer you sign in on.

Needs
Nothing. Name a column and start typing.
Holds
Up to six columns of plain text
Shows
On every computer you sign in on

Start from
The real widget. Type in the empty line at the bottom to add a row, name the columns in the header, and use the plus for another column. The two examples are made up.

On your board, next to the rest of your day

A table beside a sticky note, a clock and a countdown. The board is saved to your account, so the table is there on the work laptop and the computer at home.

Sticky Note

Year Dots

Every tile here is live. The table on this board is an example; what you type in it stays in this tab.

What you can do

Name the columns
Type the names straight into the header. They stay at the top while the rows scroll.
Add a row
Type in the empty line at the bottom. As soon as you start, it's a row, and a new empty line waits under it.
Add a column
The plus at the end of the header, up to six columns, so each one stays readable on a small tile.
Delete
The x at the end of a row deletes it at once. The x beside a column name asks twice, because a column takes its cells with it.
Saving
A cell saves when you leave it, when you press Enter, and a moment after you stop typing.
Where it lives
On your board, saved to your account. Another board already open somewhere else shows the change when it reloads.

Where the table is kept

With your board, on your account, like every widget's settings. That's how it follows you from a work laptop to a home computer, in any browser, with nothing to install.

It lives on your board in a browser tab, not on the Windows or Mac desktop itself. Make the board your start page, or keep it in a pinned tab, and the table is one click away.

What it does not do

  • It's plain text: no formulas, totals, sorting or search.
  • It doesn't open, import or export Excel files, CSV or anything else, and it doesn't print.
  • There is no undo, and one table per widget. Add another Simple Table for another table.

Questions people ask

How do I make a simple table?

Decide what one row stands for, like a book or a key, and give each fact about it a column. In Simple Table, type the column names into the header, then type the first row into the empty line at the bottom. A new empty line appears as soon as you start, and the plus at the end of the header adds a column.

How can I keep a spreadsheet on my desktop?

Windows and macOS have no built-in way to pin editable cells to the desktop. If what you need is a few rows you type and glance at, Simple Table keeps them on your DashSuey board. The board is a web page, so it lives in a browser tab: set it as your start page or keep it in a pinned tab. It doesn't open Excel files.

Is Simple Table a spreadsheet?

No. It's a table of plain text: columns you name and rows you type. It does no sums, formulas or sorting. For anything that has to add up, use a spreadsheet.

Can it add up a column?

No. Every cell is text, including numbers. Type a total yourself if you want one on the board.

How many columns can it have?

Up to six, so each one stays readable on a small tile. The column names stay at the top while the rows scroll.

Can I paste from Excel, or export the table?

No. You type into it cell by cell, and there is no import, export or print. Pasting puts the text into the one cell you are in.

Where is my table saved?

With your board, on your DashSuey account. That is how it shows up on your other computers. The table at the top of this page is different: what you type there stays in this browser tab and goes when you close it.

Will it be on my other computer?

Yes. Sign in on any computer, in any browser, and your board opens with the table on it. A board already open somewhere else shows the change when it reloads.

Can I sort the rows?

No. Rows stay in the order you typed them, and new rows go at the bottom.

Do I need to install anything? Does it work on a Mac?

Nothing to install. DashSuey is a web page you sign into, so the table works the same in a browser on a Mac, a Windows PC or a Chromebook. It isn't a browser extension, and there's no phone app.

Put it on your own board. It saves to your account.
